The Smurfs 2 Video Game review

A Platforming game for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo DS.

The Smurfs 2 is now a platforming game which follows the Smurf series. Unlike the last party pooper game known as Smurfs Dance Party for the Wii. The Smurfs 2 however has much better gameplay since it is a platformer, which is the best kind of game to be based off a kids movie.

What gameplay does Smurfs 2 have? Well, you can select several different characters and more are unlockable as you collect golden coins. This follows many of Super Mario Bros. concepts. Examples include collecting blueberries and stomping on enemies to free them from Gargamel's spell. The Smurfs must stop Gargamel and save Smurfdom. Every Smurf has their own abilities and you earn points based on berries collected, and coins collected as well for examples. There are several different environments to play each having 5 levels. This game has variety and that's very good for a game. You have the option of having four players with the Wii U edition having not only four players but an extra one to facilitate cooperative gameplay like in New Super Mario Bros. U. Players can select which Smurf to play as. This wasn't possible in New Super Mario Bros. U as the first player had to play as Mario. At least that made sense since Mario and Luigi are the stars of the Super Mario Bros. franchise. Also, when an enemy hits you, you lose all your berries which is a downer but at least you don't need to restart the level and neither are their limited amount of lives.

Graphics follow the graphics of the movie. The character designs are perfect. The overall display is great but HD technology makes them even better. You'll notice the clear cut difference when you play it on Wii U and PS3 vs. Xbox 360 and Wii. What is also great is the controls which work perfectly. There aren't many control functions needed since this is supposed to be a very casual game.

Overall, while not as big as New Super Mario Bros. U, The Smurfs 2 is definitely a working game that does not meet negative reception unlike the dung that was Smurfs Dance Party and the DS only The Smurfs game. The DS version of The Smurfs has different gameplay and watered down graphics.
