Lego Movie the Video Game is for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The version I played was the Xbox One version.
How does Lego Movie Video Game play? The Lego Movie Video game plays like many of the previous Lego games from the 2010's with the same mechanics and graphics of 8th generation gaming. The gameplay for this game's story has much variety as you will find yourself playing numerous characters such as Vitruvius, Emmett, Wildstyle, Princess Unikitty, 80's Space Guy, Batman, and many more of the characters from the movie. This game's cutscenes consist of actual scenes from the movie and the story-line and gameplay replicates the movie itself. The first level you play has you playing as Vitruvius, Wonder Woman, and Shakespeare who are all master builders who try to stop the evil Lord Business from stealing the "Kragle", a super-weapon which is in real life glue. Of course, Vitruvius fails and the game turns to an in-movie cutscene.
The story then goes to Emmett who is presumed to be the chosen one of the Master Builders. Emmett first appears as an ordinary rejected construction worker. The second level you play in has you playing as Emmett and two other construction workers. You can drive cars in some of the levels. This level has you doing the everyday instructions filled work of Emmett who is rejected by many people.
This movie's level designs are made to emulate scenes from the movie. There's even an "Everything is Awesome" dance sequence. Certain actions in the game are exclusive for certain characters such as master builders building more complex things without instructions and construction workers using drills to chip through walls. If you've seen the movie, you can recognized the scenes and tell that the scenes from the movie and the levels from the game are nearly exact. Not only that but they're also in exact order as the first Master Builder Fight, "Everything is Awesome" Brickopolis, and Emmett falling into an abyss is in the right order in both the movie and game.
How does the game play? The controls for the game are above average as they can be controlled well and this game has no shortage of variety in gameplay and puzzles as there are many different actions requiring certain characters. For a movie licensed game, this game has amazing gameplay for a Lego game and stands out for being creative in terms of gameplay and making it feel like the real story.
I like how the effects for this game are made in Lego yet look so real enough. The music and sounds for this game greatly resemble the movie as if you've watched the movie in theaters you can't tell them apart. Plus, don't forget about the many customization options for your characters as there are dozens of options available in game which you can unlock. Even replay each chapter of the story mode in free play. I should also mention that when at the end of the chapter you get the score past 100% it tunes into a ringtone style of the song "Everything is Awesome".
Plus, Lego Movie Video Game has an open world to it in which if you're not on missions you can free roam around the available environments and even do some free playing of previous levels to find more collectibles.
I also must add that there are some parts which will make you feel that it's a chore.
