Contrast is a puzzle/platformer game released on November 15, 2013 for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and most importantly PlayStation 4. Contrast was a launch title for PS4 and was digital download only for $14.99 or Free with PlayStation Plus subscription. Contrast takes place in 1923 Paris as an 8 year old girl Didi sneaks out with her imaginary friend Dawn to find her father Johnny Fenris.
Gameplay consists of a very unique structure as it has great concepts such as the playable protagonist(Dawn) blending into shadows and performing a wide variety of tasks that normal people are unable to perform such as jumping to higher structures through shadows. Some puzzles can be very challenging at times but there's always a way around them. There have been complaints by some reviewers most notably for the PC version about glitches in gameplay that happen almost constantly. I've played the PS4 version of this game and I haven't seen too many glitches, though I did come across not being able to pick up the ball once I placed it right behind the cannon tube again. The shadowplay in this game is awesome as it really plays as if it was real. Dawn must be some supernatural being for being able to shift between dimensions. Don't forget about the luminaries and collectables showing early 20th century artwork.
Story of this game has Didi helping her parents(particularly her father) in their financial need by for example getting a film reel to show to Vincenzio so the latter will perform at Johnny's circus. I really am attracted to the theme of this game as you don't see much of the 1920s in video games. The theme of this game is very appealing but I do feel that it could have had more 3D model people instead of mere shadows. I know this game is about shadows but making this 3D would make this game more real and convincing. If you see one of the collectables you'll see Didi's mother Kat Knight is one of the most beautiful women you'll ever see. Would be great to see her 3D model while you're playing PlayStation 4.
Graphics for this game look stunning if you play it on PS4. Even though this game's graphics look more cel-shaded, it definitely looks next-generation to me. The frame rate looks amazing as it just zips quick and has sharp movements to it.
Final Verdict for this casual game is 7/10
