Resogun review

A PlayStation 4 exclusive at launch Resogun is a side-scrolling shoot em up indie game. Download From PSN only.

Resogun plays like a side-scrolling shooter in which you shoot enemies and optionally rescue humans. Each level requires you to eliminate enemies and each level has three phases with a final boss battle. Five levels include Acis, Ceres, Decima, Febris, and Mefitis. Single mode has you competing for a high score wheres Arcade mode has you progressing through levels to unlock more. Ships can be upgraded to give more power such as heavier damage done to enemies or less damage done to your ship. Difficulties here are Rookie, Experienced, Veteran, and Master. Resogun manages to emulate the classic side-scrolling shoot em ups such as Space Invaders. Plus, a female voice talks through the Dualshock 4's microphone.

The gameplay for Resogun follows the simple shoot em up formula but with more flexibility and HD graphics. The theme of this game is Sci-Fi given that you use 3D digital printed space ships and things look like the inside of a computer. Impressive how this game handles and HD graphics make gameplay more enjoyable and more playable. When Space Invaders came out in 1978, graphics were just 2D pixels and environments which couldn't render detail other than colors. With Resogun 35 years later, gameplay and graphics are made to be more flexible. Movements are more realistic and gameplay feels more fast paced. You'll never look at previous generations of gaming the same again. Instead of just moving a cannon and shooting like the simple Atari 2600 controller has, you can move with a space ship and have better moves and detail unheard of decades before.

Resogun has shown us how Side-Scrolling Shoot Em Ups can retain their classic formula while tweeking it with HD technology. Final verdict for this game is a 9/10.
