Saints Row The Third released in November of 2011 for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and OnLive(which is possibly same as PC). Saints Row The Third changed dramatically for better and worse from the previous Saints Row games. While gameplay, graphics, and lasting appeal have charm, Saints Row story and environment are what brought disappointment.
Story here is The Third Street Saints are now major celebrities and The Protagonist, Shaundi, Johnny Gat, and newbie Josh Birk go on a bank robbery movie for publicity. The scene goes wrong and the Saints end up fighting SWAT teams in Stilwater. They are arrested and bailed out by the Morningstar branch of the Syndicate, which is a confederation of gangs. James Bond style villian and leader of Morningstar Phillippe Loren with his two assistants Kiki and Viola DeWynter try to tax the Saints for 66% of their income before Saints escape. Protagonist and Shaundi land in Steelport and find they are now paupers thanks to Decker arc Matt Miller's hacking of Saints bank accounts. The Saints eventually set up territory in lower Downtown Steelport. Steelport in my opinion looks depressing compared to Stilwater. Plus, the story is too linear and short, steering away from the choice of conquering gangs seperately like in Saints Row and Saints Row 2. The story and environment really don't do much apologizing here but are not entirely abysmal. SRTT is like a silly stupidized fanward of weirdness considering it doesn't feel like Saints Row as much as it did in Saints Row 2. I rated Saints Row 2 with an overall rating of around 93/100 and well Saints Row The Third's biggest mistake was making it's storyline too linear and short with a depressing run down industrial city.
Gameplay follows the same mechanics as previous games but more improved and has tons of content, especially downloadable content with a crazy sense of humor. Gameplay feels more futuristic with some more futuristic sci-fi content such as newer cars, laser guns, and hovercraft. Amount of homies you have are great and using a smartphone makes things more convienent. Though what's disappointing is less customization options available and no ability to purchase cribs. Gameplay is pretty sweet and DLC crazy but I feel it should have stuck more to Saints Row 2 while including more awesome content. Activities are shortened making them feel less repetitive but it feels like some are missing. Respect is no longer used as permission to start missions but a gate to unlocking upgrades on abilities, health, combat, etc. which come with a monetary price. So much DLC your head will spin. Do give SRTT credit for making gameplay mechanics simple and not heavy.
Graphics include a new advanced engine and more detail in environment and characters. Though Steelport sucks compared to Stilwater, game developers put more effort into creating characters and environments, making display more advanced. The PC version depending on your PC will render better gaming graphics. If only you could have the best of Saints Row 2 with the most advanced graphics like Saints Row The Third.
Ratings here include 90/100 for gameplay, 93(console) 100(PC)/100 for graphics, 70 for Story, and 87 for lasting appeal. Overal rating here is 85/100(Console)-87/100(PC).
