Super Mario All Stars was first released for SNES in 1993 and was released for a 25th anniversary edition in 2010 for the Wii. Super Mario All Stars is known for including the classic Super Mario Bros. 1-3 games plus the Lost Levels from Super Mario Bros. Super Mario All Stars is more like a remastered trilogy and the Wii version is straight copy and pasted from the SNES version with some twists.
Gameplay emulates the original versions of each game. Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 have the same kind of gameplay as you play as Mario(Luigi for 2nd Player) going to rescue the princess while avoiding enemies such as Goombas and rival Turtles. Mario also busts blocks and can obtain power-ups. If Mario is hit, he will be demoted one power-up level and if he either falls or is hit without a higher ranking power-up, one life will be lost and should you lose all your lives you will be reset. Super Mario Bros. 2 however followed a different approach as you have not only a choice to play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach but will also start with a big one which will be lost should you get hit. You can't eliminate enemies by jumping on them but can land on them and you will be moved by them. You eliminate enemies by picking up- junk and throwing it at enemies. Power-ups are very limited and a star occasionally appears giving you invincibility for a few seconds. I did play these games with the Wii Remote and it's not as easy as it sounds. Using a classic controller would have helped even more as motion sensing controls did not exist in 1993.
Graphics for these games do look like they've seen some improvement as despite their 16 bit appearance they do look fit for both 1993 and 2010. The Wii version is actually an emulation of the 1993 SNES version. I don't have much to say on graphics here as the Wii version is an emulation of the SNES version and for 1993 these graphics look great. I played Super Mario Bros. and despite that game being released in 1985, it looked updated to be more like it was actually 16 bit. Sounds and music retain their 1993 sounds as though they seem outdated they have always been charming.
The Mario franchise is old school and Super Mario All Stars fulfills this as despite the Wii version being a mere emulation, these games remain part of classic gaming history. Final Verdict gets a 9/10.
Points:
+Great Classic Gameplay
+Classic and Long Lasting Appeal
+1993 Graphics are passable
-Controls can feel Slippery At Times
